Spotted Beetle

Yay middle of the week! I drank coffee earlier and I am freakin tweaked right now at 2am. What better to do than post? Aside from playing video games, nothing that's what.

I haven't done a real honest to goodness tape mani in a long time. I saw this awesome tutorial from Nailside for some nice v-gaps that I just had to try! After rifling through the bottles to pick some colors I hadn't used in a while, I was ready to go. What I ended up with actually got compliments from the husbandguy, that's pretty rare! Take a look:

Polishes used:
  • Seche Rebuild base coat / Seche Vite top coat
  • Wet n Wild Megalast On A Trip / En Voyage
  • Hard Candy Beetle
  • Sally Hansen Lacey Lilac

I took a ton of pics but they all looked pretty darn similar for once, so I only put up two. As a side note, holy crap my hands still look so tan! The Nailside tutorial uses more dots than I did but I have dotting issues. I don't have actual dotting tools, just a sewing pin stabbed into a pencil eraser. It works, I just have trouble controlling the size of dots. Either I go too light and they're too small or I accidentally move and push too hard and then it's way too big. I really need to invest in a set of dotting tools with different sizes, it would make life much easier to have consistent sized dots. Even with only three oddly sized dots I loved how this came out. I was super happy with how clean I got my tape lines for once too. Plus it's Beetle, how can you not love that duochrome goodness? Beetle was also on my thumbs for this design in case anyone was wondering.

Do you guys use MacGyver dotting tools or do you have real ones? Which do you prefer?

    1. Thank you! I left this on until it chipped a ridiculous amount haha. The tape was actually not as bad as I remembered.

  4. This is nice! I haven't tried a tape mani yet, even though I keep saying I really need to. And I love the duochrome as an accent nail.

As for dotting tools, I tried using a bobby pin once, and it wasn't so successful. Since then I ordered some super cheap dotting tools online but haven't tried them yet! I really should pull those out soon.

    1. I was so frustrated when I first started trying tape manis but then I switched top coats and all went as planned.

Yeah I've done the bobby pin, then I switched to my sewing pin. I just want some consistency! I'd love to see what you do with them when you finally use them!

  5. Love this! I saw the tutorial too and thought "Must do", now I have to come up with different colors.

I MacGyvered it for about one mani before I caved and bought the dotting tools and they were cheap too, like $2 on ebay. Now I wouldn't give them up. I also would never let them down or run around and desert them. I don't think I can make them cry or say goodbye.

    1. I think I look at everything on Nailside and go oooo I wanna try haha.

I think that was the first time I was ever rickrolled while talking about nails hahahahaha. For reals though, I'm just waiting until we move so I can ebay it.

  6. I went straight from looking at this mani over at Nailside to your page. No lie. I suspect some sort of cosmic force is involved. Great job btw!
