Mint Apple Summer Foliage

Hey everyone! I apologize in advance for the following photos. It was gross and rainy and for some reason this mani was a total pain in the butt to photograph. I'm sure you'll get the general idea, it's just not my best. I need camera lessons or something.

I was feeling an urge to use my Sinful Colors Mint Apple with some stamping today. I knew I wanted to experiment with colors I normally wouldn't think to put together, so after some digging around in my polish boxes I came up with teal, yellow and copper. I actually really loved the way the bottles looked together, color on the nail looked totally different. Take a look!

The rarely seen right hand. I apparently do not understand how mirror images work but I like how the stamp placement changed the design so I wanted to show you all.

Polishes used:
  • Sally Hansen Salon Manicure base coat / Seche Vite top coat
  • Sinful Colors Mint Apple
  • Sally Hansen Mellow Yellow
  • China Glaze Harvest Moon
  • Red Angel stamping plate RA-119

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love Harvest Moon for stamping. It is such a gorgeous super pigmented foil, I wish it was sunny so you could see the massive sparkle it throws as well. I'm not digging how these pics gave me lobster hands, in person it actually made my hands look not ghostly. The yellow I sponged onto the corners before stamping. It took on this greenish hue over the Mint Apple which I didn't intend but I like it. I considered going over it a second time to get the bright bottle yellow but I decided to leave it alone, it looked more like foliage. It's almost like celery leaves. Overall it has a different feel on the nails than it did looking at the bottles but I still like it. I also really like the general design idea and I will be trying it with different colors for sure. Have you guys ever picked out colors that translated totally different on your nails?

  1. WOW that looks fabulous!

I've only used Mint Apple once, as a plain mani when I was in a rush and didn't have time for fancying it up.

I once did a random jelly sandwich with a pinky-brown creme, gold glitter and a hot pink jelly/shimmer on top. It turned out actually really awesome, and kinda looked like I had little hearts on my nails if one didn't look too close (they were big hexes really) which made it extra fabulous since it was right in the middle of February... unintentional festive nails FTW!

As you know I'm a fan of partial sponging as the base for nail art - and it works totally great here!!

  4. Love this mani. Color combo is unexpected and works great together...don't you just love experimenting! I almost use this exact image on my last stamping mani. It looks great.

The only time I can think of when color came out not as expected is when I stamped red onto a blue base. I couldn't even tell is was supposed to be red, but that is kinda different of what your talking about.

    1. It's kinda the same thing, I just for some reason always forget not every polish is super pigmented and that it can look different over other things haha.

  5. Everytime I pick colors thinking they will be great, they suck. and....vice versa. Like this a lot.

    1. Usually I have the same problem, I was pretty surprised that this worked even when it didn't come out the way I expected.

  6. I might hate you a little for your color picking abilities. Just a tiny bit though. I might also hate you another tiny bit because your right hand is similar to your left. My right hand is nubbin city.

I really like Harvest Moon! I've been looking for a stamping color like that. Was that a LE shade or is it permanent?

    1. You jinxed me! Not really, I'm just a spaz but it was nice for a minute to think my broken nails weren't my own clumsy fault haha. My right hand is pretty rough right now, I have like one decent length nail >.<

Harvest Moon is limited edition, it's part of the Hunger Games Capitol Colors collection. There's a ton on ebay and online though.

    1. It's really one of my favorites but I always feel like it's more of a fall color. Once it gets that time of year I'll probably use it a lot more than just stamping.
