Stamping Fun With Sally Hansen Pens

Hi guys! Today's post is entirely the fault of Kat from Hooked On Polish. She commanded that I use my Sally Hansen pen for stamping and so that is what I did. I'm such a good listener ^_^

I've had my Sally Hansen Color Quick pen for quite a while. I bought it last year, used it once, and promptly shoved it in a drawer when it leaked on one of my favorite shirts and stained it. Granted, I probably shouldn't have been trying to paint my nails in the car (no I wasn't the one driving) but still, that was my shirt yo. MY SHIRT! Sadly I loved the color I got, I just wasn't skilled enough to handle the pen delivery system apparently. Thus it sat unloved in my bathroom until last week when I saw Kat use one for stamping. Check it out!

Indoor light.

Natural light.

Blurry but more color accurate of natural light.

Bonus attempt at a super macro shot.
Polishes used:

  • Sally Hansen Salon Manicure base coat / Seche Vite top coat
  • China Glaze Flying Dragon
  • Sally Hansen Color Quick pen in Green Chrome

I love this color combination but man Flying Dragon is a weird polish. It says it's a neon but the only thing neon I found about it was that it dried matte. That said it is great for stamping over because of the super fast matte drying time. It's not very bright like you would expect a neon to be but I do like the berry shade it gives. The bottle color is gorgeous with shimmer and small round blue glitters but sadly I didn't get much of that on the nail. You can see it pretty well in the macro shot but in person it was hardly noticeable which was disappointing. Oh well, I can't complain cause it was free since there was a buy two get one free sale at Sally's when I got it. Still a great color for all sorts of things, just not what I would consider very neon. Also, yay dark polish and it's not all up in mah cuticles! Oh pure acetone, let's be friends forever.

I'm glad I found a use for my Sally Hansen pen, it didn't deserve to be neglected because of user error. These things really are great for stamping and probably for use as intended if you're not a spaz like me. I may go get some in a few more colors now. Have you guys ever rediscovered something you thought you didn't like?

  1. Isn't that Flying Dragon weird. When I posted on it recently everyone said they LOVED it. I found it so strange. Loved the color but it went on weird and was not what I expected at all.

  2. BTW, this is my plea that you consider ditching the verification code on your blog. I always want to comment but it is hard with an iPad because it auto corrects. Unless you think some robots will try to comment. :)

    1. I have a verification code?? Holy crap I didn't even know mine did that! I never see it so I assumed I didn't have it. I hate those too, I'll be messing with that to make it go away, thanks for letting me know!

Also it's really funny that you said robots commenting because I just finished painting some Battlestar Galactica cylon nails hahaha.

    1. Thanks! I felt extra fancy since it unintentionally matched my shirt that day.

  5. Ok. This will be lame, the only way I know to see if it worked is to leave a message about nothing. Oh wait....psyched about Battlestar nails, and....what is your actual name?

    1. Yay!! I hate that too, I always get ones I can't read or they look like words I shouldn't say in front of my mother haha. My name is Kelly btw ^_^

  7. Flying Dragon is such a pretty color to see from far. I don't own it, and after your review..I will not attempt to own it ever. But it is still a very pretty color.

  8. The pens are kinda neat, but I have an issue with the formula... dunno if I got a bad one or if it's a body chemistry thing, but it seems to be just me... the color doesn't stay on my nails. It rubs off. I mean, literally RUBS OFF. It'll be totally dry and as soon as I start doing anything it just starts fading away. If I'm SUPER DUPER CAREFUL with top coat I can seal it, but applying the top coat without dragging the pen color around and ending up with bald spots is super tricky.

This makes me very sad, as otherwise I absolutely love the pen method.

    1. I didn't have it rub off but I did have it dry so fast on the stamper a few times that it wouldn't transfer to my nail. I think it's just the whole pen system, putting a snap on cap on it doesn't seem like as effective of a seal as a screwed on bottle top to me but who knows. SCIENCE!

  10. YESS YESS dance my puppet, dance! Mwahahaha!

I really like the color combo though and I've never used that stamp, I'm intrigued. Great job as always!

I've seen Flying Dragon a couple times and every time I just run inside my house so he doesn't get me (Ahh get it? See what I did there? Yeah...I'm sleepy).
