Hard Candy Beetle

Hi everyone! It's a good thing I had the forethought to take pics of today's beauty when the sun was out yesterday. Today is an appropriately gross (rainy) Monday.

Today is a swatch day because I will be spending the day drooling all over my keyboard in a Guild Wars 2 beta coma. Don't be sad though, the swatch I have for you is pretty spectacular. It's my very first duochrome polish! Look at this sucker!

Clicky the jump cut for a LOT more pics of this beauty!

Ladies and possibly lurking gents, meet Hard Candy's Beetle. Pic spam mode, ENGAGE!

Polishes used:

  • Sally Hansen Salon Manicure base coat / NYC In A New York Minute top coat
  • Hard Candy Beetle

This polish, omg, this polish. For being my first duochrome it has made a VERY positive first impression. I have spent a good majority of the last few days moving my fingers around watching the color shift. Aside from being my first duochrome it is also my first from the brand Hard Candy and I was very pleased. The formula on this polish is apparently exactly what I need to not be a spaz. All of the above pics are with ZERO cleanup. That's right, none. I colored inside the lines like a big girl!! I attribute this entirely to the polish consistency being just right for me, it stayed where I put it and wasn't too thick or thin. The brush wasn't large like the Sally Hansen Salon Manicure brushes but it worked like a charm, I had zero application issues. Dry time on this was pretty decent and it took me five days of hard usage before it even came close to chipping. After this experience I will definitely be open to more polishes from Hard Candy as well as looking forward to trying more duochrome colors!

You may have noticed I changed up my normal base and top coat. I feel like I've used my normal combo long enough to be able to tell a difference if I switched to something else so I've started experimenting. So far I am liking the NYC but we shall see what it does with stamping in terms of smearing. Dry time wasn't much more than Seche Vite and it certainly doesn't smell as strong. I can't really argue with a smaller price tag either. Really the only downside I've found has nothing to do with the polish, it's just at a store a little out of the way instead of my normal hunting grounds.

Hope you all have an acceptable Monday, thanks for reading!

  1. Beetle was my first duochrome too (not my first hoped-for duochrome, but the first was a lie in the bottle). Started an addiction! Really good duochromes are a bit hard to come by unfortunately, and how it looks in the bottle is no guarantee... I've started to build up a decent duochrome collection though.

Highly recommend Nina Ultra Pro's Molten Gold and Molten Copper polishes. I suspect Molten Opal would have the same effect but I don't own it yet.

    1. Just looked up swatches, I think I may need to be on the lookout for the gold one. I am seriously in the duochrome addiction boat now!

    1. I found this at Walmart believe it or not! It came with a cute little ring on the bottle and was about $4. I really need to go back for other colors, they had a few glitters and cremes. The full name is Hard Candy Just Nails and the color name is Beetle.

Here, have an Amazon link in case you can't find them near you:

  6. Do you think this would be a dupe for either Sally Hansen's Luster Shine in Firefly or Nicole by OPi's Iris My Case?
